Spring is upon us, bringing with it warmer weather, blossoming plants, and longer days. This time of year is known for its rejuvenating effect, and many people find themselves getting into spring cleaning mode, trying a new hairstyle, or taking on a project. The point is, springtime connotates the thought “new” for a lot of people, which is why now is a great time to start a project you’ve been meaning to get to. Perhaps now would be the perfect time to remodel your bathroom!
Sure, renovating your Brevard County bathroom may not be as easy as doing a little spring cleaning, but it sure is rewarding! Whether you’re thinking of remodeling because your bathroom is outdated, or you are hoping to increase the value of your home, Island Tile is here to help. Before you start picking out paint, ripping out tile, and taking a sledgehammer to the old bathroom cabinets, you need a clear plan to be happy with the outcome. So, we thought we’d put together a guide for planning out your bathroom renovation to help you stay on-track and on-budget.
Determine the Scope of the Work
First things first, you need to decide what exactly you want to accomplish. Does your bathroom need a floor to ceiling revamp, or could you accomplish your goals by changing the paint, installing new flooring, and replacing your shower? Obviously, the more work your bathroom will need the larger your budget will need to be, which brings us to our next step.
Allocate your Budget
Once you have an idea of what you want to accomplish, do some research. Let’s say you’ve decided you’d be happy with a new paint job, new flooring, and you want to replace your old bathtub with a new shower. To get a general idea of what this will cost, you could start by looking up the average price of a new shower, the cost of paint, and get a range of what it will cost to replace the flooring (you’ll need to know how many square feet your bathroom is). Once you have some numbers look at your finances, figure out what you’re willing to spend in each area, and come up with your budget.
Hire a Professional or DIY
Chances are you can do some of this by yourself, but you’ll probably need to hire a professional if you’re doing some serious remodeling (we wouldn’t suggest messing with the plumbing!) Figure out what you can do yourself and what you’ll need help with. For example, you could save some money by painting the walls yourself, and if you’re really handy, you might be able to replace the floor on your own (if not, we have professional flooring installers that can help!). But installing that shower is probably out of your wheelhouse. The bottom line is that it’s up to you and how capable you feel performing some of these tasks.
